Our journey

Your journey begins in Puerto Plata, where colourful streets, historic coastal fortifications and views from the cable car bring the island's combination of culture and nature to life. Rum tastings and a full-day immersion in local crafts and family traditions provide authentic insights into everyday Dominican life.

The onward journey to Punta Rucia takes you to a quieter world of turquoise-coloured sea and relaxed village life. From here, a boat takes you to Cayo Arena, where glowing coral reefs and a shallow sandbank offer ideal conditions for snorkelling. The contrast between local life and the marine landscape characterises this special section.

Inland, Jarabacoa awaits you with its cool mountain air and pine-covered hills. Gentle hikes to waterfalls and sweeping views reveal another facet of the island. The tour ends in the Zona Colonial in Santo Domingo, where colonial facades, historic squares and Caribbean history round off the journey in an atmospheric way.

Day 1: Arrival - Puerto Plata

After your arrival, your driver will take you to your hotel near the coast. The rest of the day is deliberately left flexible so that you can acclimatise in peace after your journey. Take a short walk through the surrounding streets, enjoy your first glimpse of the Atlantic or relax at the hotel before tomorrow's guided programme. With cafés, beach paths and small squares in the immediate vicinity, the neighbourhood offers a pleasant and gentle introduction to the rhythm of the island.

Optional activity: Sunset walk along the coast

Day 2: Puerto Plata

Meet your guide for a comprehensive introduction to Puerto Plata. At Castillo San Felipe, enjoy the view over the bay before learning more about the regional geology in the Amber Museum. The cable car takes you up to Pico Isabel de Torres, where you can enjoy sweeping panoramic views. A rum tasting rounds off the excursion with insights into local production. In the afternoon, you return to the hotel and have free time to relax by the sea or explore on your own.

Services: Hotel accommodation in Puerto Plata (breakfast), private transfer, guided city tour

Optional activity: Extended walk through the Victorian neighbourhood

Day 3: Cultural immersion & horse riding

Today provides an authentic insight into rural Dominican traditions. You start with a practical introduction to cigar rolling and then visit a local family, where conversations will bring you closer to everyday life and local customs. After a home-cooked lunch, you will go on a guided horseback ride through fields and gentle paths at a relaxed pace. You return to your hotel in the late afternoon and have time to relax.

Day 4: Puerto Plata - Punta Rucia

You travel westwards along a coastal route with views of small villages and the open sea. After your arrival in Punta Rucia, check into your hotel and enjoy a free afternoon. Stroll along the shore, relax in the shade or let yourself drift to the quiet rhythm of village life. This transitional day provides a pleasant contrast to the livelier atmosphere of Puerto Plata and sets the mood for tomorrow's boat trip.

Service: Hotel accommodation in Punta Rucia (breakfast), private transfer

Optional activity: Coastal boat tour in the early evening

Day 5: Snorkelling at Cayo Arena

You board a boat in the direction of Cayo Arena - a shining sandbank surrounded by clear water and coral reefs. Your guide provides the equipment and shows you the best spots for snorkelling. Underwater visibility is usually very good, so marine life can be observed close to the surface. After your time in the water, you will enjoy a simple lunch on the coast before returning to Punta Rucia. The afternoon is free for you to relax or spend more time on the beach.

Service: Hotel accommodation in Cienfuegos (breakfast), private transfer, lunch

Optional activity: Stand-up paddling

Day 6: Punta Rucia - Jarabacoa

You leave the turquoise-coloured coast behind you and travel inland towards the Cordillera Central. The landscape gradually changes - pine forests, pleasantly cool air and rolling hills now characterise the landscape. After arriving at your lodge, you have time to relax or take a short walk in the surrounding area. The peaceful atmosphere and the fresh mountain climate offer a pleasant break before tomorrow's hike to the waterfalls. The evening is free for you to enjoy the lodge and its outdoor areas.

Optional activity: Guided village walk

Day 7: Jarabacoa

A local guide accompanies you along wooded paths and to open viewpoints on the way to one of Jarabacoa's waterfalls. The route is pleasant and even, not too demanding, and offers plenty of time to enjoy the scenery, take photos or take a break at the waterfall. You return to the lodge around midday. The afternoon is at your leisure - to relax outdoors or for an optional visit to a nearby coffee plantation.

Day 8: Free day in Jarabacoa

Organise the day according to your desired level of activity. Rafting or canyoning offer action-packed experiences for the adventurous, while an e-bike tour is a comfortable way to explore the surrounding hills. Those who prefer a quieter pace can enjoy the outdoor areas of the lodge and the pleasantly cooler temperatures in the mountains. You set your own pace and can return to your accommodation at any time. The evening is at leisure.

Day 9: Jarabacoa - Santo Domingo

You travel south-east from the mountains towards Santo Domingo. As you descend, pine forests gradually give way to urban neighbourhoods and finally the historic centre of the capital. After checking into your hotel in the Zona Colonial, you have the afternoon at leisure - to relax or explore the nearby squares and cafés. The contrast between rural nature and colonial architecture lends particular depth to the last section of the journey.

Service: Hotel accommodation in Santo Domingo (breakfast), private transfer

Optional activity: Street food tour in the evening

Day 10: Santo Domingo

Your guide will lead you through the historic heart of Santo Domingo. You will explore important squares, the cathedral, Calle Las Damas and early fortifications and learn how the city shaped the history of the Caribbean. Lunch will be served in a local restaurant before the tour continues. You then return to your hotel and have free time to revisit individual sights or enjoy the special atmosphere at your own pace.
