History of the place and interesting facts

Uxmal was an important city of the Mayan civilisation that flourished between 600 and 900 AD. Located in what is now the state of Yucatán, Mexico, the city is known for its impressive architecture, characterised by intricate stone carvings and monumental buildings such as the Pyramid of the Sorcerer and the Governor's Palace. Uxmal was a centre for trade, education and religion and played a decisive role in the political life of the region. The city reached its peak in the Late Classic period of the Maya and was later abandoned in the Postclassic period, possibly due to environmental changes and social upheaval.
