Arenal Volcano

History of the place and interesting facts
La Fortuna was once a small farming village that only became the centre of attention after the Arenal eruption in 1968. The village was spared - which earned it the name "happiness". Since then, La Fortuna has developed into a pioneer of sustainable tourism in Costa Rica. The combination of volcano, nature and well-being is now the region's trademark.

The local culture is down-to-earth, close to nature and characterised by warm hospitality. Many families have lived here for generations and preserve their traditions. Best time to travel
The driest time to visit is between December and April, ideal for clear views of the volcano and pleasant hiking conditions. La Fortuna is also easy to visit during the green season from May to November, as rainfall is usually sporadic and short-lived.

In La Fortuna, visitors enjoy a varied mix of traditional Costa Rican cuisine and international influences. "Casado", fresh fruit juices, cocoa specialities and fish dishes are typical of the region.
Locomotion
The centre of La Fortuna is compact and easy to explore on foot. Comfortable minibuses, shuttles and private transfers are available for excursions in the surrounding area.
