Arenal Volcano

History of the place and interesting facts

La Fortuna was once a small farming village that only became the centre of attention after the Arenal eruption in 1968. The village was spared - which earned it the name "happiness". Since then, La Fortuna has developed into a pioneer of sustainable tourism in Costa Rica. The combination of volcano, nature and well-being is now the region's trademark.

Best time to travel

The driest time to visit is between December and April, ideal for clear views of the volcano and pleasant hiking conditions. La Fortuna is also easy to visit during the green season from May to November, as rainfall is usually sporadic and short-lived.
